When using the talk window in the game you can elect to change which channel you use. These are the Isle of Gron guidelines.
# As all ages may play this server we ask that profanity isn't used.
# Using capital letters is considered shouting - and rather rude. If you wish to put emphasis on a word type it as follows.
Man, he _really_ kicked my butt.
DM
The DM channel is used by DMs to communicate with each other. If you want to get the attention of a DM you may use this channel, however the Isle of Gron Momento will do this and also contact DMs that are logged on as players, if there are any.
Mos of our DMs are currently based in, Australia, as is this server. If you cannot contact a DM and another player cannot help you then post your problem in these forums.
SHOUT
The shout channel is for server messages. It may be used by players for the following purposes only:
To announce serious problems noticed on the server if no DM is contactable.
It is not to be used for:
- Asking for help: if a DM is available talk to them, otherwise open the player list (p) and send a Tell to a random player.
- Asking to be raised: Respawn.
- Asking how to solve a puzzle / complete a quest: if you are _really_ stuck ask a DM or send a tell to a random player.
- Birthdays/X-Mas/Holiday announcements: We will be putting a notice board and an ooc area in Gron Tavern. Please use these.
- Greetings either on entry or exit as this may affect other players RP
TALK
The talk channel is for normal conversation. Anything said in talk is assumed to be "in character" unless preceded by "ooc" or "//" or "\\" or some such. Remember all people near you can see it and people in your party can't if they are too far away.
WHISPER
Secrets, lies and intrigues. All people need intrigue. Using whisper can enhance role-playing, but be warned, some may overhear you. All whispers are to be "in character".
TELL
A tell is a message sent directly to a player (green text). All tells are considered to be out-of-character. You may use tells for any non-offensive purpose.
PARTY
Unfortunately this also gets sent to the DM channel. If DMs are on they may ask you to stop party chat so they can use the channel. You are encouraged to use TALK instead of party as party chat is not assumed to be in character and will not earn role-playing xp bonuses.
On the other hand if you are in a party involved in a DM'd quest, you may be asked to use the party chat channel exclusively so the DM can follow your dialog while in other areas setting up. In this case party chat is then considered in character.
* OOC
"Out Of Character." OOC conversation has nothing to do with your character - you the player are talking. You may want to use OOC to tell other players things like "// lvl" (I just leveled) "//brb" (be right back) or to have a friendly chat. We ask that you do not have lengthy ooc conversations in populated areas as it interferes with other players Role-playing. A special ooc room can be found downstairs from Gron Tavern. All conversations here, regardless of the channel are out-of-character, and you are encouraged to use it for that purpose.
