Griefing
Griefing is a generic term that describes any sort of activity that makes the game less fun for other players. Remember that some people may take this game very seriously and may get personnally offended at how your character interacts with theirs. All we ask is that you tread lightly when meeting new people. Get to know them and their playing style before you make comments or persue actions that they could find unfriendly. They are just as important to the Isle of Gron as you are, be they a lowly level 1 first time player, or a 15th or 40th level player that has been on the Isle since it started.
That said, you cannot expect all characters on a server to be nice, even if the person playing them is friendly. We want diversity within the Isle of Gron. Roleplaying is fun, but to have a well rounded world some disreputable people are needed in the mix.
If you have a problem with a player and their attitude to you please follow these few simple steps.
1 - Turn on game logging. You do this by
# Open the nwnplayer.ini in the NWN folder with a editer (notepad)
# Look for the section headed [Game Options]
# Anywhere in this section, insert the line
ClientChatLogging=1
# Save the file
#NWN will then create a file called "nwclientLog1.txt" in the Logs subfolder of the main NWN folder.
#This is overwritten each time you log on so you need to save it after each game.
Screenshots are fine too, though they must be of sufficient resolution to make out the text.
2 - Try talking to the player (OOC). Some things are innocent misunderstandings.
3 - If you can't stand their character or playing style don't speak or interact with them and ask that likewise they don't speak or interact with you - get a log of this.
4 - If they continue to harrass, annoy or bait you, contact us with a copy of the log that shows you asking them to leave you alone, and a description of what they are doing that you find offensive.
IMPORTANT - Your fun is as important as theirs, no more, no less. Let's play nice.
In the event of griefing being brought to our attention we will try to mediate the situation to the satisfation of all parties. No decisions regarding griefing will be made without first attempting to talk to all the players involved. Where there is proof (logs) of a person consistantly harrassing, annoying, baiting another player, the following will occur. If the harrasment is particularly offensive - eg personal OOC attacks - the CD-Key will be banned from this server, otherwise, a written warning will be issued. Further griefing, even if against a different player will result in delevelling of characters. If after this you are still caught griefing your CD-Key will be banned.
PvP
Absolutely NO PVP except in the DoJo in Gron Village. This area is set up mainly for characters to try out new equipment , spells and battle tactics. In the DoJo there is NO DEATH PENALTY and NO XP AWARDED. You will be able to go in with another player or spawn some demons to battle.
The server has to stay set to PartyPVP otherwise players cannot kill commoners. The DoJo area allows players to battle each other if they choose.
Role-Play
Your character has an identity that is seperate from that of the player. Most of what your character does or says on the server is considered to be part of this identity. You may have different characters who behave in completly different ways. Playing a well conceived character may earn you xp bonuses of up to 500xp (if a DM is watching).
Realism
The Isle of Gron is a magical land. We enphasise game enjoyment and player choice over realism. You will always be able to rest (unless hostiles are close by) at any time. Your character will never need food, water or shelter on the Isle of Gron. Changing the appearance of your character's equipment (armour, weapon, shield and helmet) will allways be cheap in the alteration shops (e.g. Ryzle's in Gron Village). Dying armour, etc., is free with the universal dye kit which can be generated from the Gron Token.
Klinking
It's your stuff - do what you want with it.
Klinking is giving stuff to new characters - usually beloning to the same player - that they could not have obtained otherwise. It is either frowned upon or dissalowed on most servers. Klinkers are welcome here.
Muling
Characters of any level may travel together. No unfair advantage in terms of xp is gained in this way on the Isle of Gron. You may want to read about our custom xp scripts here:
isleofgron.proboards25.com/index.cgi?board=Guts&action=display&thread=1115678658
Power Gaming
If you like hack and slash go for it. If you want to repeat quests go for it. If you hate lvl 1, see the boy on the dock and take the box to Captain Bill, repeat as required. (Though you will get less quest xp for the same quest as you level.)
Power gaming is focusing on xp or doing things to rapidly level your character. Power gaming is frowned upon on most rp servers. Power gamers are welcome here.
Talk Channels
When using the talk window in the game you can elect to change which channel you use. These are the Isle of Gron guidelines.
# As all ages may play this server we ask that profanity isn't used.
# Using capital letters is considered shouting - and rather rude. If you wish to put emphasis on a word type it as follows.
Man, he _really_ kicked my butt.
DM
The DM channel is used by DMs to communicate with each other. If you want to get the attention of a DM you may use this channel, however the Isle of Gron Momento will do this and also contact DMs that are logged on as players, if there are any.
SHOUT
The shout channel is for server messages. It may be used by players to anounce serious problems noticed on the server if no DM is contactable.
It is not to be used for:
- Asking for help: if a DM is available talk to them, otherwise open the player list (p) and send a Tell to a random player.
- Asking to be raised: Respawn.
- Asking how to solve a puzzle / complete a quest: if you are _really_ stuck ask a DM or send a tell to a random player.
- Birthdays/X-Mas/Holiday anouncements: We will be putting a notice board and an ooc area in Gron Tavern. Please use these.
- Greetings either on entry or exit as this may affect other players RP
TALK
The talk channel is for normal conversation. Anything said in talk is assumed to be "in character" unlesss preceeded by "ooc" or "//" or "\\" or some such. Remember all people near you can see it and people in your party can't if they are too far away.
WHISPER
Secrets, lies and intrigues. All people need intrigue. Using whisper can enhance role-playing, but be warned, some may overhear you. All whispers are to be "in character".
TELL
A tell is a message sent directly to a player (green text). All tells are considered to be out-of-character. You may use tells for any non-offensive purpose.
PARTY
Unfortunately this also gets sent to the DM chanell. If DMs are on they may ask you to stop party chat so they can use the channel. You are encouraged to use TALK instead of party as party chat is not assumed to be in character and will not earn role-playing xp bonuses.
* OOC
"Out Of Character." OOC conversation has nothing to do with your character - you the player are talking. You may want to use OOC to tell other players things like "// lvl" (I just leveled) "//brb" (be right back) or to have a friendly chat. We ask that you do not have lengthy ooc conversations in populated areas as it interfears with other players Role-playing. A special ooc room can be found downstairs from Gron Tavern. All conversations here, regardless of the channel are out-of-character, and you are encouraged to use it for that purpose.
Exploits
Exploits are bugs that work in the player's favour. Some exploits are intrinsic to the NWN game engine and can't be "fixed" by the module developers. Others have occured due to the scripting we have used to make the Isle of Gron unique, some are pure serindipity. If you find an exploit that has not been added to the bugs list we will grant a gift to your character for information about it - or I will develop it and Gron will be more unique.
