Because of the unique spawning system of Gron we manage to match our creatures against characters quite well.
I, myself, am not great at building creatures, so Dan came up with a Chart that gives guidelines for AC min and max, HP min and max etc for building creatures.
We try to have a scaling of CR within the band level - and don't like to have to "turn down" the CR. I have found that by using this chart as a guide I haven't had to.
We also like to make sure that the creatures classes are within 2 of the creature CR.
Important note - if you have dual weapon creatures - only equip one weapon because we have found that if you equip both it blows out the CR. Just put one of the weapons in their inventory - they may or may not equip it - we will work on the AI so that they do.
All creatures past level 15 should have haste - if they are a creature that for creative reasons you think shouldn't have haste keep in mind that the characters they are fighting most likely will so give them something else to even out the balance.
Make sure they have the default gron scripts (you can make a script template within the mod from one of the other creatures)
